People with an intellectual disability in the NDIS

The People with an intellectual disability in the NDIS report is part of a series of publicly shared reports released by the NDIA as part of the Agency’s commitment to sharing data. This is in addition to the comprehensive quarterly and other reports regularly released to assist stakeholders better understand participant characteristics, participant outcomes and market trends.

As of 31 December 2019, there were 78,992 participants with a primary intellectual disability in the NDIS, making up 23.3 per cent of all Scheme participants with an approved plan. 

The report summarises available information on:

  • participants – access decisions, eligibility rates, participant characteristics and exit rates for participants with an intellectual disability
  • committed supports and payments – the amount and types of supports committed in plans and how the plans are utilised
  • participant outcomes and satisfaction – participant baseline and longitudinal outcome measures for participants and family/carers, as well as results from the participant satisfaction survey.
